Description:
Northern Rhone legend Jaboulet Aine have offered the "P-45" line as an entry level expression of their expertise since 1950. The name references the 45th parallel which runs just two kilometers from Jaboulet's home cellars in Tain L'Hermitage. For a point of reference, the 45th also runs along the Canadian border of New Hampshire and Vermont on our continent. I wouldn't advise trying to start a major fine wine operation in those zip codes, but it certainly works in southern France! This Cotes du Rhone blanc, composed of fruit farmed by two family's on the right bank of the Rhone river, displays particularly energetic and lifted white fruits that make the natural fleshy-ness of the Grenache Blanc, Rousanne, Viognier and Bourbolenc blend all the more satisfying. None of these varietals dominate the blend and the overall effect is of a fairly simple white wine, but it's the tension of that liveliness and textural weight that is so pleasing. The perfect transitional late-winter, early-spring white.
Food Pairings: Raclettes with Round Potatoes; Lebanese Seven Spice Lamb; Pasta alla Norma (fried Eggplant Pasta w/ Shaved Ricotta Salata)
